The independent hip-hop and R&B label of the DNKYBongsTV Network. A collective of artists, writers and producers with a point of view, a finished body of work, and no interest in being repackaged into whatever is charting this quarter.

The name is the mission statement. Grown, as in artists who have lived enough to have something to say. RenegadeZ, as in unwilling to hand over creative control in exchange for a marketing budget. The label operates on short, transparent terms: artists keep their masters where possible, splits are agreed before release, and nobody signs anything they need a lawyer to decode.

The Sound

Grown RenegadeZ Music sits at the intersection of boom-bap hip hop and live-feeling R&B — drums that hit like drums, basslines played rather than pasted, and vocals mixed to sound like a person in a room. Recent output includes Ngoma from Grown RenegadeZ featuring Mr. Baaka, a record that leans on percussion and space rather than density.

The roster stays deliberately small. A label that releases forty records a year cannot give any of them real attention, and attention is the only thing an independent imprint has that the majors don’t.

How Releases Get Made

Records move through the network rather than around it. A track gets introduced and contextualised on Gemwork Radio. If there are two candidates for a lead single, they go head to head in Sound Check and listeners decide the order. Coverage runs in G.U.M.M. Magazine, written by people who didn’t sign the artist. Approved DJs pull promotional copies, clean versions and instrumentals through DJ Access.

Sister Imprints

Grown RenegadeZ Music is one of three music divisions on the network. Last Kind Recordz focuses on new and emerging independent artists, and LK Jazz handles jazz and live-instrumentation releases. The three share infrastructure — radio, editorial, distribution, DJ servicing — while keeping separate creative identities.

If you have finished, mastered work that belongs somewhere near this, submit music through the network’s form and note that you’re aiming at Grown RenegadeZ Music specifically. Include credits, any clean versions or instrumentals you have, and a short note on what the record is.
