G.U.M.M. Magazine is the independent music and culture publication of the DNKYBongsTV Network. It covers the work, the business and the people behind independent music — editorially independent from the network’s labels and shows, even though it shares a roof with them. That separation matters. A magazine that only praises its own roster isn’t a magazine.

The name stands for Gemwork Urban Music Magazine, and the remit is broader than reviews. G.U.M.M. Magazine reports on how independent artists actually make a living: distribution deals, streaming economics, sync licensing, the platforms that take a cut, and the tools reshaping how records get made. Alongside that sits cultural writing — history, obituary, argument, the occasional straight love letter to a record that deserved better.

What G.U.M.M. Magazine Covers

Recent work has run across four threads. Platform Power examined who controls distribution and what that control costs artists. The New Workflow looked at how independent musicians are changing the way they write, record and release. The Assisted Era asked what happens to craft when the tools get this good. Beyond the Algorithm tackled discovery — how listeners find anything at all when recommendation systems decide what surfaces.

Around those longer pieces sit artist profiles, scene reporting from Los Angeles, Redlands, Phoenix, Memphis and New York, and obituaries for figures the mainstream press underserved. Coverage of underground and boom-bap hip hop runs throughout, but the magazine doesn’t treat genre as a fence.
